Licenses & Permits
Building permits are required for all new construction; also to enlarge, alter, repair, move, improve, remove, convert or demolish any building or structure in the city. Building permits are obtained from the City Clerk. Residents must submit a drawing of work to be done showing dimensions and placement on the property as well as approximate cost of the project. This should be submitted to the City Clerk in time to be put on the monthly agenda. There is no fee for the building permit, but a there is a $60 charge for inspection which is handled by Oskaloosa.
University Park has a Code of Ordinances book which includes nuisance, curfew, offenses against peace and safety of residents, animals, and snow removal. Most of the ordinances are compliant with the City of Oskaloosa. The Mayor, clerk, and all council members have a copy of the ordinance book should anyone have any questions.
City Council meets the first Tuesday of every month at the Community Center (1204 Center Street) at 7 p.m.
Trash/Recycling pick-up is currently on Thursdays. Garbage is paid through a sticker system. Stickers are purchased at the Casey's General
Store on 9th Ave East. Recycling bins can be purchased from the City Clerk for $5.
The City of University Park is protected by the Mahaska County Sheriff Department.
The Community Center is available for rent for a fee of $50. The center is equipped with a stove, refrigerator, microwave, coffee pot, seven 8-foot tables, and 70 chairs. Contact Kim Albright at 641-673-8583 to make reservations. Reservations should be made as early as possible.
